Free Credit Score Programs: Worth What You Pay For!

Many credit companies claim to provide your credit score for free. But if it's free, you're the product! They make money by selling financial products based on your credit score - and don't give you a complete score.

Free credit companies often don't use all three credit bureaus, making their scores inaccurate. We've seen their scoring software over 100 points off our client's real score. That's because we use the middle score of the three bureaus and must consider all reported debts.

To be safe, visit annualcreditreport.com for free copies of your credit report. You're entitled to a free copy every 12 months and can stagger your requests from each of the bureaus to always know what debts are being reported. If you see something incorrect, dispute it so you don't have a problem when you apply for a loan. The free credit report does not include a score, but you can pay extra to get it or use the free monitoring programs mentioned above to get a ballpark (keeping in mind they are not fully accurate).
