Alyssa’s Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Two easy ways to make perfect potatoes.
Ingredients
3 lbs. red potatoes
4 tbsps. butter
8 oz. sour cream
1/2 cup whole milk
1 tbsp. minced garlic
Garlic powder
Salt
Black pepper
Directions
1. Cook the potatoes using either the stovetop method or Instant Pot method.
Stovetop method
- Chop the potatoes into quarters. Place them in a large pot and cover with water until just about 1 inch above the potatoes.
- Bring the potatoes to a boil over high heat, then reduce to medium-high.
- Cook for 10-12 minutes until the potatoes are easily pierced by a fork.
- Drain the water and transfer the potatoes to a large bowl.
Instant Pot method
- Place the metal rack at the bottom of the Instant Pot.
- Add 1 cup water, then place the whole potatoes on the metal rack.
- Cover the Instant Pot and set the vent to the seal position. Set to pressure cook or manual for 8 minutes.
- Once cook time is up, quick release by turning the knob to the vent position.
- Once the float valve has dropped, remove the lid, drain the pot, and transfer the potatoes to a large bowl.
2. In a large bowl, combine the hot potatoes with butter, milk, sour cream, minced garlic, and garlic powder, salt, and pepper to taste.
3. Use a potato masher or hand mixer to mix your potatoes until smooth.
4. Taste and add additional salt and pepper if needed.
