Family First, Everything Else Second!

Family is not determined by blood, but by bonds that are based in love, trust, and genuine care for each other! Remember that none of your success matters if you don’t have a family to share it with.

I may be a little impartial to this topic right now, as I just happened to marry the love of my life less than 10 days ago. In the midst of one of the tumultuous years of our lives, my wife and I planned the perfect wedding ceremony for us: an intimate ceremony with our immediate family, grandparents, and a small group of friends. It wasn’t the big party that we had planned, but it was exactly what our family needed.

I live my life by a very simple quote, “the purpose of life is a life of purpose.” The purpose of my life is to do the best I can to provide for my family, be a good son to my parents, be a good brother to my siblings, be a good uncle to my nieces and nephews, and now most importantly…be a great husband to my wife. I don’t care about anything else in my life as long as family is taken care of and happy.

In a world where social media, TV shows, movies, and countless other media outlets portray meaningless things (fame, money, attention, Instagram likes) as what we should strive for, it is important to reflect on how happy you would be if you had all of these things, but no family to share it with. On the opposite side of the spectrum, if you didn’t have any of these things, but had a family that loved you could things really be that bad?

Everyone’s family is different. Your family could be your significant other, immediate cousins, a close group of neighbors, your childhood friends, even the people you work with every day! Family is not determined by blood, but by bonds that are based in love, trust, and genuine care for each other. I hope that you achieve every single goal you set out for yourself, this article is just a reminder that none of your success matters if you don’t have a family (in whatever form you are blessed to have) to share it with. Family first, everything else second!
