Get Your Spring Cleaning On with These Pro Tips

It might seem like there’s a lot to do. The key to getting it all done is dedicating a day or part of a day to each room, instead of tackling it all at once!

Spring is in full swing, and with the season comes the need for new beginnings! Out with the old and in with the new, which includes getting rid of your clutter, organizing your space and cleaning those vents you haven’t touched since last spring.

Overall Home

Aside from the usual sweeping and mopping, take special care with your windows and ceilings. Wait for an overcast day to clean your windows, as cleaning them in the sun can cause streaks. If you have really high ceilings, make sure you have an extendable duster to clean up the corners, fans and lights.

Chances are there’s a drawer, cabinet or closet in your home that you dedicate to random junk. It’s time to clean that out! Throw away the things you don’t need and display the trinkets you forgot about. Clear out that space for the items you actually do need to put away and organize.

Living Room

Give your couches and rugs a good deep cleaning. The way you clean them will depend on their material, so make sure you read the tags before you start doing anything! If it’s hard to reach underneath your couch, it’s a good time to move things around and get to the little nooks and crannies you can’t easily clean every day.

Bedrooms

If you haven’t worn that sweater you received as a birthday present last year, it may be a good time to donate it. Go through your closet and get rid of the clothes you haven’t worn in a while, you’re holding on to for no particular reason, or you just don’t like anymore. In addition, clean out the other stuff in your closet! We know you have a piece of luggage or plastic box on a shelf with random tidbits you forgot about.

Much like the living room, make sure you move some furniture around to clean up the dust underneath as well.

Bathrooms

You should be cleaning your tub, toilet, tiles and sink at least once a week. Take this time to really get into the grit and scrub away the grime. Clean your shower head and the back of your toilet tank, dust any vent covers and wash any rugs. Make sure you go through the cabinets and sanitize all your items or throw out anything expired or unnecessary.

Kitchen

Clear out all your kitchen cabinets to give them a good deep clean. Cooking grease can really settle into them, so make sure you get every shelf and every corner. If you have any pots and pans with food residue you just can’t get out by normal handwashing, loosen the grime by simmering a mixture of water and dish soap and scrub it off with a scouring pad.

Exterior

Cleaning the outside of your home is just as important as the inside! Wipe down your windows, hose down your outdoor mats, clean out your rain gutters and power wash your sidewalks and driveways.

You may want to dedicate a few days to cleaning out your garage if you have a lot of junk in it. Once you’re done, it’ll feel like a whole new space!

Other Items

Vacuum your dryer lint trap compartment and clean around and behind the machine. The vent should also be cleaned out once a year.

Once you’re done with your home, make sure you clean your cleaning tools as well. Replace the filters in your vacuum, wash all your cleaning rags, get into the bristles of your broom and clean or replace your duster.

Spring cleaning only comes once a year, but if you keep up with your regular cleaning schedule, it won’t be so daunting. Put on some tunes, equip yourself with plenty of cleaning supplies and get to work. Soon your home will feel like brand new again!
