Tackle These Organizing Hacks

Because extra storage space is everything!

Freeing up room in your home can give you such a satisfying feeling. If you think you’ve tried every home organization trick out there, one of these might surprise you!

Laundry

Place color-separating baskets in your closet for laundry, and one for dry cleaning. This will save you time sorting clothes, and you’ll always know when you have enough colors for a full load.

Wardrobe

If you haven’t worn a piece of clothing in a year, donate it. Charities such as Goodwill accept gently used clothing, fund job skills training and employment services, and redirect reusable goods from landfills.

Kitchen

Organize your kitchen cabinets into categories for easy use.

  • Cups: near the fridge so you can easily pour that morning juice.
  • Utensils: in a drawer close to the dishwasher, so you don’t have to make 10 trips across the kitchen.
  • Pots and pans: best placed near the stove.
  • Tupperware: in a drawer (rather than a shelf) so you can always find a matching lid.
  • Kid plates: on a lower shelf – they can reach them without calling you away from the first relaxing bath you’ve had in a month!

School paperwork

Have one designated spot where kids should leave school flyers, permission slips that need signing, and school photo envelopes.

Drawer storage

Invest in drawer organizers. Though it’s easy to think “out of sight, out of mind,” a messy desk drawer does not help your productivity. Mix and match acrylic dividers so your pens, pencils, and paper clips all have a spot to live.

Clutter

Take up the space with something pretty! Since it’s often too easy to just throw things anywhere, flip the script and make it harder to cause a pileup. Placing a plant, figurine, or framed photo on your side tables will make it harder to put things there that do not belong.
