Anthony’s Favorite Hot Chocolate Recipe

Indulgent. Rich. Delicious.

Ingredients for chocolate whipped cream

  • 2 tbsps. sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2/3 cup heavy cream

Ingredients for hot chocolate

  • 1 13.5-oz. can coconut milk
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/3 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. flaky sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
  • Water
  • Your favorite chocolate

  1. Make the chocolate whipped cream by stirring together the condensed milk, cocoa powder, and vanilla extract in a bowl. Pour in the cream before stirring and scraping down the sides of the bowl to combine well. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed until soft peaks form. Cover and chill until it’s ready to use.
  2. Start the hot chocolate by shaking and stirring the coconut milk. Add it to a saucepan and whisk it together with cocoa powder, sugar, and salt. Cook over medium heat, whisking often, until the mixture reaches a gentle simmer. Reduce the heat to medium-low and continue cooking and whisking often until it’s slightly thickened. Remove from the heat.
  3. Taste the hot chocolate and add an additional tablespoon of cocoa powder at a time or a teaspoon of sugar as needed. Reheat the hot chocolate over medium while whisking to incorporate well. A tablespoon of water can be added to dilute if needed, too. Remove from heat once it’s perfect.
  4. Let the hot chocolate cool for 3 minutes. Stir in vanilla extract. Pour evenly into 4 cups. Top each with a 1/4 cup chocolate whipped cream and garnish with shavings of your favorite chocolate. Serve and enjoy!
