The Purpose of Life is a Life of Purpose

My one word for 2024 is purpose. What’s yours?

Every January, each member of Team Montani picks one word that will be their driving force for the year. Based on the lessons taught in the book “One Word That Will Change Your Life” by Jon Gordan, this work helps us simplify our lives by focusing on this one word for the entire year. The one word is meant to be a spark to remind us what we want to focus on in our personal, professional, and spiritual lives for the upcoming year. Forget lists, goals, and tasks – we just focus on the one word we choose and have that be the center of everything we aim to accomplish for one calendar year. For 2024, my one word is purpose.

I can say with confidence that 2023 was the hardest year of my life, both personally and professionally. While I had some incredible successes, I also went through some of the most challenging and humbling experiences I’ve ever gone through. There were days and sometimes weeks at a time when I felt my stress and anxiety levels were at their maximum breaking point.

What, or should I say who, motivated me the most during moments of struggle was my amazing wife, loving group of family and friends, and incredible team. They’re the reasons my one word this year is purpose. The word purpose serves as a daily reminder of why and what I do every moment of every day. I believe my purpose in life is to be the best man and leader I can be – not just for my family and friends but for my team, clients, and the people I work with every day. I’m motivated to be the best version of myself for the people in my life. My purpose is to love, care for, and support them, doing everything in my power to not let them down.

The point of this article isn’t to say you should choose purpose as your one word. It’s that you should pick one word, too! As Jon Gordan says, “There is a word meant for you, and when you find it, live it, and share it, your life will become more rewarding and exciting than ever.”

Figure out your one word for 2024, let it be your driving force, and watch it change your life.
