What to do When Someone Works With Another Realtor (Instead Of You)

So you just lost a client to another realtor, what should you do now?

When a prospect decides to work with someone else instead of you, it certainly hurts a little. It’s happened to all of us during our careers.

What’s my best advice? Don’t give up hope!

Here’s what you can do.

 1.     Take the high road. I know it’s disappointing, and you want to work with them- but you still can, later!

2.       Congratulate the home buyer. It’s still a very exciting time for them. And just because you didn’t earn their business NOW, doesn’t mean you can’t earn their business in the future!

3.     Keep the relationship. Tag them as a different realtor client (or a “target” or “prospect”, whatever makes the most sense for your particular database/CRM), but ensure that you still NURTURE and INCUBATE them in your marketing sphere.

It’s very unlikely that they’re going to be living in that home for 80 years. Chances are, that in the next ten years, they’ll transact a few more times- whether that means buying an investment property, selling their current property and buying a new home, etc.

Just because they’re not a client NOW, doesn’t mean they can’t be one in the future!

Let’s Go!
