Your Plan For 2024: Learn. Adapt. Grow.

Do you remember Nokia phones?

Of course you do! They were number one. We all had Nokias. They cornered the market. And so did the stands at the mall where we could get endless sparkly, patterned, Nokia phone cases.

In 2007, Nokia was the cell phone KING. They had one billion customers! Fast forward to 2013, sales plummeted. They lost ALL their market share. Subsequently, they were forced to sell their company to Microsoft. During that announcement, their CEO at the time famously said, “We made no mistakes, and we still lost.”

But here’s where he was wrong.

The mistake they made was NOT making any changes.

NOT adapting.

NOT innovating.

They weren’t in tune with the market conditions nor were they accepting them. See at the time, it was very clear that the cellphone race was between Android and iPhone. Consumer’s needs and wants were changing with the times, and they wanted touch screens. Not manual buttons.

I know what you’re thinking. Katie, what the heck does this have to do with real estate? Well, a lot actually! It’s a new year. It’s 2024! Can you believe it?

Things are changing. We’re in a constant state of change in real estate and not just at the beginning of the year but All. Year. Long. If you want to stay on top or if you want to rise to the top, the plan is the same. Adapt. Grow. Learn.

Don’t let your ego get in the way. Don’t rest solely on what made you successful last year. What worked in the past may work today but it may not work tomorrow. It’s more important than ever that we’re staying humble and in a constant state of adaptation and learning.

I’m a firm believer that without growth, we can’t move forward. Don’t be Nokia.

Let’s have a kick-ass 2024.
